I arrived at Scarborough beach about 10 minutes before the session was due to start. Music was blaring from the amphitheatre and the beach was full of people enjoying the warm autumn evening air. The music wouldn't have been a problem if it wasn't for the knowledge I had received about this particular family.

Mum, Nathalia had spoken to me prior to the shoot about her son Joaquin's Autism and I was very aware that the crowds and music could possibly upset and trigger a bad reaction. I started to build a backup plan as I know of a few locations on the beaches nearby that would offer a quiet and relaxed setting if everything went pear-shaped.

I came prepared, knowing that I would take a relaxed and gentle approach to this session. I planned not to incorporate too many poses and to encourage natural interaction between the family and their surroundings.

We found a perfect spot with a dip in the sand that filled with water each time a big wave crashed as soon as Joaquin saw this and realised he was able to have a good splash around in the huge puddle, he was elated. Dad, Paul and Joaquin didn't even stop to take off their shoes! The crowds and music still pumping faded into the background and we caught some fantastic moments.

Throughout the shoot, I was mesmerised by little Reuben's head of hair. At only 5 months old he has more luscious locks than all of my brother's put together (and I have 8 of them!)

We timed the session perfectly and about 20 minutes into shooting the sky completely lit up and developed into the most unbelievable sunset. The entire space above us was on fire. We took advantage of this incredible gift and caught so many beautiful moments that, I'm sure, will be cherished forever.

I am so thankful to have met such a beautiful family, on such a perfect evening. A complete and utter photographer's dream.

Take a look at their full gallery below. These photographs are going to make the most beautiful album that they can all sit and flick through together and experience the most special evening again and again and forever appreciate how wonderful a family, and quite clearly, an awesome team they really are.

I can't wait to see how this photo looks printed nice and big and up on the wall of their home.
